Periodontal Disease

Regular cleanings promote healthy gums.  Several factors can lead to gum recession and premature tooth loss.  These include age, family history, presence of plaque, systemic disease such as diabetes, and frequency of dental cleanings.  It is important to have regular check-ups in order to measure gum pockets and identify potential problems early on.  Once an evaluation is done the type of cleaning and frequency of cleanings can be determined.

Ongoing research has shown a correlation between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease.  This evidence suggests infalmmed gum tissues may actually increase the incidence of heart conditions and stroke.

Even more reason to brush and floss daily, and to get regular cleanings!
